CORTICOSTEROIDS IN THE TREATMENT OF PULMONARY TUBERCULOSIS

Abstract
|
|
|
The author reviewed literatures on the effect of corticosteroids regarding the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis and added some of his opinions. He favors the use of corticosteroids along with an adequate chemotherapy in tuberculosis treatment. The major indications are as follows.
1, Acute tuberculosis with severe toxic symptoms, acute lobar pneumonic type, acute miliary type (pulmonary or meningeal) (exudative pleurisy, acute stage).
2. Milially diagnosed pulmonary tuberculosis with remarkable symptoms (fever, fatigue, anorexia, Weight loss, etc.)
3. Chronic far advanced pulmonary tuberculosis with poor coustitutional status.
4 In some cases of hardly controllable hemoptysis.
5. Pulmonary tuberculosis with asthma like dyspnoeic attacks.
